Volunteers and Serving Sermon Series Ideas and Graphics

Most churches recruit volunteers with an announcement and then wonder why it's the same forty people carrying everything. A series changes the frame from a staffing gap to an invitation.

These ideas are built to run alongside an open sign-up, because a serving series that hasn't got one is a guilt trip with slides.

The work in the gallery is ours. We’ve designed 18 approved pieces that match this topic for churches around the country, and you’re seeing the most recent of them.

The ideas

6 Volunteers and serving series to steal

  1. 01

    All Hands

Four weeks on the body of Christ taught as job descriptions rather than as metaphor. End on a sign-up weekend with team leaders in the lobby.

  2. 02

    Behind the Scenes

A series that puts a different team on the platform each week to tell what they do. It'll recruit better than any graphic can.

  3. 03

    Serve

A short arc built around one all-church serve day in your city. The day's the point and the series gets people signed up for it.

  4. 04

    Every Member

Weeks on gifting and where a person fits. Pair it with a short assessment people can fill out in the room, because they won't do it at home.

  5. 05

    Thank You

An appreciation series aimed at the people already serving rather than at recruiting new ones. A church that runs this one every year keeps its volunteers longer.

  6. 06

    Show Up

Three weeks on faithfulness in small assignments. Honest about how unglamorous most of it is, which is exactly why it works.

Planning

What To Build and When

Design the sign-up flow before the series art. If the path from a raised hand to a first Sunday on a team takes three weeks, no graphic's going to fix the drop-off.

Team shirts and lanyards do recruiting work all year. A volunteer who looks like part of something is the most effective ad a church has got.

Every other topic we’ve built is on the sermon series ideas hub.

Questions Churches Ask

When should a volunteer series run?

Four to six weeks before your biggest attendance season, so new team members are trained before the crowd arrives.

What makes volunteer recruiting work?

A specific ask with a small first commitment. A general call to serve gets nods and you won't get names.

What graphics does a serving push need?

A sign-up graphic, a team-by-team card set, and something printed for the lobby table where people can talk to a leader.

Want the artwork handled?

Tell us the series and the date. Your Squad builds the slides, the social set and the print, and you'll spend that week on the message instead of on the artwork.
