Fall and Back to School Sermon Series Ideas and Graphics

Fall is the busiest launch of the church year and it's the one churches most often start late. Small groups relaunch, students come back, a new series opens, and a stewardship push is usually waiting behind all of it.

The ideas here are built for that pile-up. Each one carries a full season rather than a single Sunday, so one visual system covers the eight or nine weeks between the first day of school and the holidays.

The work in the gallery is ours. We’ve designed 126 approved pieces that match this topic for churches around the country, and you’re seeing the most recent of them.

The ideas

7 Fall and back to school series to steal

  1. 01

    Reset

A four-week series about starting the fall on purpose instead of by accident. It works because the calendar's already put everyone in a fresh-start frame of mind, and it gives your groups relaunch something to point at.

  2. 02

    Rooted

Five weeks on the practices that hold a person steady when the schedule fills. Fall is when families feel the squeeze first, so a series about roots lands harder in September than it'll ever land in June.

  3. 03

    Homecoming

A three-week welcome-back arc aimed squarely at the people who drifted over the summer. Pair it with a lobby push and a text campaign, because this one's as much an invitation as it is a message.

  4. 04

    Better Together

Four weeks making the case for groups, service and shared life, timed to land the week your sign-ups open. Churches get more out of it when the series art matches the group sign-up graphics rather than living on its own.

  5. 05

    First Things

A stewardship series that runs on priorities rather than on budget language. Fall giving conversations tend to start in October, and a message series is a gentler on-ramp than a campaign brochure.

  6. 06

    The Long Obedience

Six weeks on staying faithful through an ordinary stretch, built for the flat weeks between the fall launch and Advent. It gives your teaching calendar somewhere honest to go once the launch energy fades.

  7. 07

    Table Manners

A four-week look at hospitality and how a church treats the people who walk in unsure. It pairs naturally with a volunteer recruiting push, since the series names the behavior you're trying to recruit for.

Planning

What To Build and When

Start about eight weeks out. That's enough time to lock the series title, build the title slide and the social set, and still get promo running two Sundays before the first message.

The piece most teams skip is the in-between artwork. Announcement slides, group sign-up graphics and lobby signage all get made in a hurry the week they're needed, and they end up looking like they'd come from a different church than the series art did.

Every other topic we’ve built is on the sermon series ideas hub.

Questions Churches Ask

When should a fall sermon series start?

Most churches launch the weekend after the first full week of school, which puts families back on a normal rhythm before you ask them to commit to anything.

How long should a fall series run?

Four to six weeks is the common shape. Anything longer collides with a stewardship push or with Advent planning, and that's a collision you'll lose.

What graphics does a fall series actually need?

A title slide, a lower third or bumper, a social announcement set, and the group sign-up artwork. Those four cover almost everywhere the series shows up, and they're the ones a volunteer can reuse.

Want the artwork handled?

Tell us the series and the date. Your Squad builds the slides, the social set and the print, and you'll spend that week on the message instead of on the artwork.
