Christmas and Advent Sermon Series Ideas and Graphics

Christmas is the one season where the design work outweighs the teaching work, and it isn't close. Invites, Eve service times, parking signs, social, print and a series that only runs four weeks.

These ideas are chosen for how well they'll carry all of that, because a Christmas theme that only works on a title slide won't survive a mailer.

The work in the gallery is ours. We’ve designed 20 approved pieces that match this topic for churches around the country, and you’re seeing the most recent of them.

The ideas

6 Christmas and Advent series to steal

  1. 01

    Light in the Dark

Four weeks through Advent following the light imagery all the way to the manger. It hands candlelight night an obvious visual payoff you'll have been building toward for a month.

  2. 02

    Homecoming

A series about coming home for Christmas aimed at the people who only visit in December. The invite card's the most important piece in this one.

  3. 03

    The Waiting

Advent taught as the long wait rather than as the countdown. Quieter, and it suits a church that doesn't want December to feel like the mall.

  4. 04

    Unto Us

Weeks through the names of Christ in Isaiah, landing on Christmas Eve. Traditional in the best sense, and you'll find it easy to design with restraint.

  5. 05

    Room

A four-week arc on making space, both in the story and in a December schedule. It preaches well to a tired congregation.

  6. 06

    The First Christmas

A series that walks the actual narrative one character at a time. Good for a church whose December crowd hasn't heard it straight through.

Planning

What To Build and When

Christmas design starts in September. Print has to be ordered by early November, the Eve service times get locked before that, and everything downstream's waiting on both.

The Eve service graphic is a different job from the series graphic. One's an invitation with times on it and the other's a teaching frame, and combining them weakens both.

Every other topic we’ve built is on the sermon series ideas hub.

Questions Churches Ask

When should Christmas graphics be finished?

Digital by early November and print ordered before that, since the first invites go out the week after Thanksgiving.

How long should an Advent series be?

Four Sundays plus Christmas Eve. Adding a fifth week pushes into the week nobody's there.

What Christmas pieces get used most?

The invite card and the service-times graphic. Both carry the information a guest actually needs, and neither of them's the series art.

Want the artwork handled?

Tell us the series and the date. Your Squad builds the slides, the social set and the print, and you'll spend that week on the message instead of on the artwork.
