The Position

Church Media Squad is seeking a WordPress Developer Contractor to join our Web Squad to support the build and launch of new church websites. This role focuses on developing custom WordPress sites using Bricks Builder, with a strong emphasis on usability, performance, and maintainability for church users.

In addition to new builds, WordPress Developer Contractors will also be asked to assist with support requests and maintenance for existing member websites.

The WordPress Developer Contractor role is project-based, with available hours varying from week to week. Contractors will be notified in advance of available hours for the upcoming week, depending on project needs.

All Church Media Squad Squad members operate entirely remotely. Contractors should have their own equipment compatible with an Apple-only environment.

Church Media Squad is based out of Salt Lake City, UT. The state of Utah has the lowest percentage of Christians in the country with the Salt Lake Valley having less than 5% who consider themselves part of the Christian faith. Our Founder’s goal and hope is to be part of God's transformative movement in the Salt Lake Valley by making our base of operations here and helping church plants in Salt Lake valley.

Qualifications:

  • Expert-level experience with Bricks Builder for WordPress (required).

  • Ability to create and manage custom post types, ACF, and plugin integrations.

  • Experience with DNS configuration and hosting migrations.

  • Skilled in site performance and speed optimization techniques.

  • Experience with SEO best practices.

  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills.

  • Portfolio must include live WordPress builds.

  • Bonus if you have experience working in a church or ministry setting.

  • Familiarity with ClickUp, Slack, and Notion is helpful.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop responsive, accessible, pixel-perfect, and high-performing WordPress sites using Bricks Builder from approved Figma designs.

  • Build reusable components in alignment with Squad web standards.

  • Handle DNS and hosting setup, migrations, and troubleshooting.

  • Optimize websites for speed, performance, and SEO compliance.

  • Integrate third-party church tools (e.g., Church Online, Planning Center, Subsplash).

  • Collaborate with internal designers and strategists to ensure accurate implementation.

  • Assist with support and maintenance tasks for existing member websites.

  • Use ClickUp to track tasks and communicate progress.

  • Maintain communication via Slack.

Other Details:

  • You will report to the Web Director.

  • Higher internet speeds are required for this contractor position.

  • This is a 1099 Contractor role; compensation will be paid per hour.

  • Pay Structure: $50 per hour

  • Availability: U.S. business hours, preferably within +/- 2 hours of Central Standard Time (CST).

  • Church Media Squad reviews compensation arrangements periodically and may offer project renewals or scope expansions.
