Unwrapping the Design with Ivy

The holiday season brings with it a unique blend of traditions and stories. As we gear up for Christmas services and events, the role of art and design becomes central in capturing and conveying the meaning of the season.

We had the pleasure of speaking with one of our designers, Ivy, who recently crafted designs for the Christmas theme God's Assurance. It’s both visually stunning and rich in meaning.

Join us as we explore Ivy's creative process and the choices that make her design stand out!

"I always lean towards fonts that allow me to play," Ivy says, explaining her choice of using the font 'Obviously Condensed Black' for the project. "It's chunky and assertive, perfect for a holiday that's all about presence and celebration."

"Christmas is not just about the common symbols; it's about the story that started it all," Ivy shares.

She decided against the traditional Christmas trees and lights, choosing instead to use vibrant illustrations that narrate the birth of Jesus.

"I wanted to capture that childlike wonder, that joy, which is why I went with such a bright and inviting color palette."

Ivy candidly shared the hurdles she encountered: "The biggest challenge was deciding on the illustrations. There's a fine line between too much and just enough." Her solution was to focus on the subtitle, 'God's Assurance', and to let that message guide her illustration choices, ensuring the design stayed true to the core of the Christmas message.

"This project felt like a fresh snowfall," Ivy says, comparing this design to her previous work. "Previously, I relied heavily on photos and typical Christmas imagery. This time, it was about setting a new visual standard for how we depict the holiday."

"The enclosed star is my personal homage to the Christmas tale," Ivy shares with a smile. "It's a nod to the star of Bethlehem but crafted in a way that's uniquely mine – it's both an ornament and a beacon of the narrative we're telling."

In crafting this Christmas design, Ivy has woven together tradition and innovation, creating a design that speaks to both the heart and the imagination. Her work invites us to see the familiar story of Christmas with fresh eyes and a renewed spirit.
